foundational experiment which demonstrates a seemingly impossible phenomenon of “particle-wave duality” – quanta photons of light and all elementary particles take every possible single route & also behave as waves interfering with themselves, as they pass through 2 slits, creating characteristic patterns as evidence. Shows that when we look at these elementary quanta, the fields collapse their wave function from a superposition of possibilities into a single, definite localized state – but ALSO that when we do not see them, they exist in superposition. Significant as our first experimentally proved clue to a unified theory of everything ... which we don’t yet have.
